High Performance Bonded Bead Cavity Wall Insulation
Stone walls
Houses with random stone or coursed stone walls may have been built with a cavity which is suitable for cavity wall insulation. They do however need a more thorough examination than ‘standard’ brick built properties.
When a property has an outer wall made of stone, it is unlikely that the internal surface of the cavity will be smooth, in the way a brick wall is. Stone walls are therefore unlikely to be suitable for fibre since blown fibre cannot be guaranteed to fill the cavity evenly, thus raising the risk of voids in the cavity and/or cold or damp spots.
By installing a specific bonded bead system, there is a fair chance that the cavity can be insulated.
Narrow cavity
If the cavity is a minimum width of 40mm, there is a chance that it could be insulated using a specific bonded bead system. Normally, blown fibre cannot be blown into a cavity of anything less than 50mm width as problems can occur.
Standard brick property
We have noticed a considerable increase of people with standard brick properties choosing bonded bead insulation as it offers better
u-values than any blown fibre in comparable cavity width thicknesses.
Risk of flood area or damp problems
Unlike any blown fibre insulation, bonded bead by nature of its composition is waterproof and therefore will not sag or slump in the cavity even if saturated with water. It is therefore the preferred option for certain wetter or coastal areas of the country.
